CSIR NET Life Sciences Syllabus

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and University Grant Commission (UGC) are holding National Eligibility Test for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Lectureship.

The question paper shall be divided into three parts, (A, B & C) as per syllabus & scheme of exam

Part-A: Shall be common to all subjects including Engineering Sciences. This part shall contain questions pertaining to General Aptitude with emphasis on logical reasoning, graphical analysis, analytical and numerical ability, quantitative comparison, series formation, puzzles, etc.

In Engineering Sciences, Part B shall contain questions pertaining to Mathematics & Engineering Aptitude & Part C shall contain subject-related multiple-choice questions (MCQs), generally covering the topics in the syllabus.

And for other disciplines:

Part-B: Shall contain subject-related conventional Multiple Choice questions (MCQs), generally covering the topics given in the syllabus.

Part-C: Shall contain higher value questions that may test the candidates knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem.

Note: Negative marking for wrong answers, wherever required, shall be applicable as per the scheme of Exam

CSIR NET Life Sciences Exam Pattern

TIME: 3 HOURS

MAXIMUM MARKS: 200

CSIR-UGC (NET) Exam for Award of Junior Research Fellowship and Eligibility for Lecturership shall be a Single Paper Test having Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

The question paper is divided into three parts

Part - A: This part shall carry 20 questions pertaining to General Science, Quantitative Reasoning & Analysis, and Research Aptitude. The candidates shall be required to answer any 15 questions. Each question shall be of two marks. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 30 out of 200.

Part - B: This part shall contain 50 Multiple Choice Questions(MCQs) generally covering the topics given in the syllabus. A candidate shall be required to answer any 35 questions. Each question shall be of two marks. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 70 out of 200.

Part - C: This part shall contain 75 questions that are designed to test a candidate knowledge of scientific concepts and/or application of the scientific concepts. The questions shall be of analytical nature where a candidate is expected to apply the scientific knowledge to arrive at the solution to the given scientific problem. A candidate shall be required to answer any 25 questions. Each question shall be of four marks. The total marks allocated to this section shall be 100 out of 200.

There will be a negative marking @25% for each wrong answer.

To enable the candidates to go through the questions, the question paper booklet shall be distributed 15 minutes before the scheduled time of the exam. The Answer sheet shall be distributed at the scheduled time of the exam.

On completion of the exam i.e. at the scheduled closing time of the exam, the candidates shall be allowed to carry the Question Paper Booklet. No candidate is allowed to carry the Question Paper Booklet in case he/she chooses to leave the test before the scheduled closing time.

GATE Life Sciences Exam Pattern

The GATE 2016 Examination consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration that contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of both multiple-choice questions ( MCQ ) and numerical answer-type questions.

GATE 2024 contain questions of two different types in various papers:

(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) carrying 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. These questions are objective in nature, and each will have a choice of four answers, out of which the candidate has to mark the correct answer(s).

(ii) Numerical Answer Questions of 1 or 2 marks each in all papers and sections. For these questions the answer is a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad. No choices will be shown for this type of question.

IIT JAM Exam Pattern

The JAM 2016 examination for all the seven test papers will be carried out as ONLINE Computer Based Test ( CBT ) where the candidates will be shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen. For all the seven test papers, the duration of the examination will be 3 hours. The medium for all the test papers will be English only. There will be a total of 60 questions carrying 100 marks. The entire paper will be divided into three sections, A, B, and C. All sections are compulsory.

Questions in each section are of different types as given below :

Section - A contains a total of 30 Multiple Choice Questions ( MCQ ) carrying one or two marks each. Each MCQ type question has four choices out of which only one choice is the correct answer. Candidates can mark the answer by clicking the choice.

Section - B contains a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions ( MSQ ) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ type question is similar to MCQ but with a difference that there may be one or more than one choice(s) that are correct out of the four given choices. The candidate gets full credit if he/she selects all the correct answers only and no wrong answers. Candidates can mark the answer(s) by clicking the choice(s).

Section - C contains a total of 20 Numerical Answer Type ( NAT ) questions carrying one or two marks each. For these NAT-type questions, the answer is a signed real number that needs to be entered using the virtual keyboard on the monitor. No choices will be shown for these types of questions. Candidates have to enter the answer by using a virtual numeric keypad.

In all sections, questions not attempted will result in zero marks. In Section - A ( MCQ ), the wrong answer will result in negative marks. For all 1 mark questions, 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. For all 2 marks questions, 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. In Section - B ( MSQ ), there are no negative and no partial marking provisions. There is no negative marking in Section - C ( NAT ) as well.

There is the provision of using an Online Virtual Calculator and hence, the candidates should not bring any calculator with them.

Mobile phones or any other electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall. Charts, Graph Sheets, Tables are also NOT allowed inside the examination hall.

A scribble pad will be provided for rough works and this has to be returned back at the end of the examination.

The candidates are required to select the answer for MCQ and MSQ type questions, and to enter the answer for NAT questions using only a mouse on a virtual numeric keypad ( the keyboard of the computer will be disabled ).

At the end of the 3 hours, the computer will automatically close the examination.

The academy is a centre for excellence in the field of Life sciences with well-planned, well equipped and orderly managed preparations.
