Types of Millets

1. Pearl Millet
  • Pearl millet which also goes by Bajra is one of the commonest consumed Indian millet. It has plenty of iron, fibre and antioxidants. Its versatility is manifested in roti, khichdi and other traditional foods.
2. Finger Millet
  • Another highly nutritious type of millet is finger millet or Ragi, which is rich in calcium, iron and essential amino acids. Its usually making flour, porridge or snacks, especially for infants and young ones.
3. Foxtail Millet
  • Fiber-rich foxtail millet is used as a rice substitute with its unique ability to regulate sugar levels in the blood. It can be found in salads soups and other healthy food hence it makes an excellent choice for people who tend to think about their health.
4. Little Millet
  • Little millet is smaller in size and has a slightly nutty flavour, it is also rich in fibre as well as minerals such as magnesium and phosphorous making it a great option for pilaf or up or any other traditional dishes.
5. Barnyard Millet
  • Barnyard millet has high fiber content and fewer calories which makes it an excellent choice for weight management; in addition, it is a good source of iron hence beneficial to those suffering from anemia.
6. Kodo Millet
  • Kodo millet richly contains protein fibres and vitamins that are essential to your health; Its mild taste makes this grain ideal for use in various traditional dishes like upma, porridge and khichdi.
7. Proso Millet
  • Proso millets are tiny yellowish grains containing fiber that is rich in antioxidants having a mild flavour which are used to make different things like pilaff, soup or salad.
