Government Intervention and Assistance Programs
The Government of India undertakes various schemes and provides subsidies in support of farmers and improving agricultural productivity. For example, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme offers direct payment to farmers which aids in providing financial security to small and marginal farmers. Additionally, the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme allows farmers access to credit at subsidized interest rates, which enables them to purchase better seeds, fertilizers, and irrigation systems. Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) aims at the development of agricultural infrastructure and the adoption of economically and ecologically sustainable farming. Other schemes such as the Soil Health Card Scheme subsidically support farmers with scientific analysis of soil fertility monitoring. Platforms such as eNAM (National Agriculture Market) enhance trade by enabling farmers to sell their produce directly to buyers, thus ensuring better prices for their goods. The Government also encourages farmers to adopt modern irrigation systems by subsidizing the installation of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, saving water and increasing efficiency. Farmers and agribusinesses can register on Sansadhan™ to get listed and gain access to suppliers approved by the government for farming tools and irrigation equipment. This empowers farmers to take full advantage of these programs and increases their agricultural capabilities.
